Forefront Studies Program
on Civil and Environmental Engineering Towards Co-Development of Asia and Japan(Admission October 2020) 

 

 
The Graduate School of Engineering and the Graduate School of Environmental Studies at Nagoya University will accept applications from foreign students who wish to pursue a doctoral or master’s degree in the field of Civil and Environmental Engineering, with the financial aid of the Japanese Government (Monbu-Kagaku-sho; Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) Scholarship Program. This scholarship program provides a course specially designed for foreign students, in which course works and research supervision are carried out in English.
 
The selection will be made basically by the submitted documents and internet interviews, and any applicants do not have to visit Japan for an entrance examination.  5 DC students and 3 MC students will be accepted for this program and those who will pass the selection process will be allowed to enter in October 2020 with a scholarship granted by the Japanese Government.

The Forefront Studies Program offers the financial aid of the Japanese Government (Monbu-Kagaku-sho; Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) Scholarship Program.
The scholarship students will be selected from the successful applicants.
 If you are selected a scholarship student, the following are provided:
 
•Exemption from enrollment and tuition fees
•A monthly stipend of about 148,000 yenfor doctoral student, and 147,000 yen for master’s student.
   (subject to change depending on the annual budget of each year)
•Air ticket from/to the student's country

Requirements for Application 

 

1.Every applicant must fulfill the following English language requirements:                                         
The applicant who has graduated from a university where the primary language of instruction is not English must satisfy one of the following requirements. In all cases, only the results of tests taken after January 2018 will be considered valid for the application.
 
 
 (1) TOEFL: minimum score of 80 iBT ; 60 Paper-delivered Test 
        ** We accept TOEFL iBT and Paper-delivered Test, but NOT my best scores.  
 
 (2) IELTS: minimum overall band score of 6
 (3) Other evidence showing that the applicant has English proficiency
        at least equivalent to requirements above. 
 
However, an applicant who is a native speaker of English or who has received their education in a university program in which English was the primary language of instruction is exempted from this requirement. In that case, submit the official certificate of the university certifying that you received education in English.
 
2.Applicants of the scholarship must be under 35 years of age as of April 1, 2020
       (born on or after April 2nd, 1985).
 
3.If the applicant of the scholarship is currently staying in Japan or will keep staying in Japan between December 1st 2019 and September 30th 2020, he/she is not eligible to apply for this scholarship. If the applicant is unable to make a decision, he/she should inquire in advance about the qualification. 
 

 

Selection Method 

 

  • 1. Selection of successful applicants consists of a first (document) screening and second (interview: as a rule, applicants who do not reside in Japan will be interviewed via the Internet, Skype, etc.) screening.
  • 2. Results of the first (document) screening will be announced via e-mail.
  • 3. Applicants who successfully pass the first (document) screening will also be informed of the date of the second (interview) screening in the e-mail.
  • 4. The second (interview) screening includes an oral examination on fundamental knowledge of your specialized field.

  •  Opening for application:   November 20, 2019

  •  Closing for application:   January 30, 2020 by 16:00 (Japan Time)

  •  Announcement of the first screening result:   The end of February, 2020

  •  Announcement of the admission result:  The end of March, 2020
